The ABBYY software is what will make OCR scanning work with your VuPoint scanner, and it is distributed with the scanner on the CD that came with it. (Not compatible with Mac OS) and what computer operating system is on your computer? And, when you put the CD for the VuPoint into your computer, did you try clicking upon the CD icon in your system, and starting the SETUP program (if there was one on the CD and it did not automatically start upon inserting the CD) ? I recommend trying that. Compatible with Windows® XP, Windows® Vista™ and Windows® 7. What version of MS Word do you have, please? The specifications for your model of VuPoint scanner say: ABBYY® (OCR Software) Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Software included converts and exports scanned files to computer for editing text. I was giving you an answer assuming you wanted to scan images and edit picture files. It has Digital ICE for films and prints, so it can work his magic on photos too. Oh, I think you mean OCR scanning for text documents that will scan them into text, that can be pasted into a document editing program like MS Word. It can scan photos, documents and pretty much everything that V550 can, convert scanned documents into editable text ABBYY FineReader Sprint Plus OCR, but with one major improvement.

On other computers, or for something much more elaborated in capabilities (and much harder to learn to use) in the way of graphics editing, you can download and install the GIMP editor, from If my Answer went over the ground that your question raised in a satisfactory way, please rate my question. Cropping is done with Ctrl-E, though it can seemingly only crop off the right hand side and the bottom side of the image, if you go to Image - Flip/Rotate, and choose to Flip Horizontal and apply that, you can crop off (what was) the left side of the image, and then apply Flip Horizontal after that to return the image to its original orientation. Resizing, for instance, is done by Image - Stretch/Skew, and fill in a percentage value for Stretch (which will enlarge the image if percentages applied are over 100 %, and reduce the image in size if they are below 100 %). Then you can use the editing controls of Paint. In a Windows computer (any version) you go to Start - Programs - Accessories - Paint and then in that program window, go to File (at the upper left) - Open and choose a scanned image file to load into Paint, for editing. The most basic is called MS Paint, or Paint for short.
Depending upon whether your have Windows or MAC OS X on your computer as the operating system, you can edit an image (provided that you can scan the original and save it to your computer already - if that part of the process is giving you any difficulty let me know) with several image editors.
